Like most things on the platform, learning how to delete stories on Instagram is a quick and easy process. With just a couple of taps, your story will be deleted for good. It’s good that you remember that there’s no going back once you delete a story. You don’t have a draft mode, and you can’t just “unpublish” something – the only option you have is deleting, and once you do that, it’s a done deal. A copy of the story continues to exist in your Story Archive, though, in case you need it.

That being said, here are the steps you need to take in order to delete an Instagram story:

• Open your story on the app.
• Click on the three dots on the bottom of the screen.
• Select “Delete” and then confirm.

That’s it – the story has been deleted, and it’s no longer viewable on the app.

Delete an Instagram Story from Your Archive

If you want to get rid of all the evidence that a story ever existed, the best way to do it is by deleting it from your Archive as well. Here’s how you can do that:

• Open your profile on Instagram.
• Select the three lines menu icon at the top of the screen and tap the “Archive” button.

• You will have the option to choose which Archive you want to access: Posts, Stories, or Lives.
• For this purpose, tap on “Stories” and then find the story you want to delete.
• Open it and tap on the three dots menu on the bottom right corner.
  Select “Delete” and then confirm.

That’s it; the story has been removed.

Delete an Instagram Story from Highlights

Highlights offers a way to keep Instagram stories on your profile for more than 24 hours. This feature allows you to select stories from your Archive and group them in any way you find meaningful. As a brand, you can do a “Products” highlight, where you keep stories from all your product promotions. With that said, stories do age, and there may come a time when you want to remove one of them so here’s how:

• Go to your profile on Instagram and select a story highlight.
• Get to the story you want to remove and click on the three dots on the bottom.

• Select “Remove from Highlight.”

You’re done – the highlight is removed.
